Dr. Brückmann discussed the history of the Civil Rights Movement and its significance for US society today. She began her talk introducing historiographical debates about the Civil Rights Movement, contrasting promoters and critics of this mass protest movement.
Dr. Brückmann then focused on the crucial role of women in social movements, then and now, and how tactics brought fourth by women during the Civil Rights Movement still influences social movements, such as Black Lives Matter, today.
Dr. Brückmann finished her presentation stating that the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement remains a proactive and ongoing task.
